Role Overview
The Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) serves as the chief executive and strategist of the company. The MD/CEO is responsible for providing visionary leadership, ensuring operational excellence, and safeguarding the Company’s assets. The role demands effective oversight of the Company’s own functions as well as the monitoring of operations conducted under lease agreements, ensuring compliance, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
Core Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Lead the formulation and execution of corporate strategy, business plans, and annual performance goals approved by the Board.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulatory frameworks, and the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Act, 2023.
- Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency across all tiers of the organization.
2. Operational Oversight
- Oversee the company’s operations, ensuring compliance best industry practices, production standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor quality, safety, and environmental standards to protect Company assets and national interests.
- Drive efficiency improvements, innovation, and adherence to international best practices in the mining and metallurgical sectors.
3. Financial & Resource Management
- Ensure financial discipline and effective allocation of resources to maximize shareholder value.
- Oversee budgeting, capital investment, and revenue monitoring to ensure sustainability.
- Submit timely and accurate financial, risk, and performance reports to the Board.
4. Organizational Development & Talent Management
- Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing management team, ensuring succession planning and capacity development.
- Foster a performance-driven culture aligned with the Company’s mandate and strategic objectives.
- Champion organizational transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Stakeholder & Government Relations
- Represent the Company as its principal spokesperson with Government authorities, regulators, partners, communities, and the public.
- Develop strong partnerships with the stakeholders (national and international) to ensure the Company’s commercial interests are safeguarded.
- Promote socio-economic development initiatives benefiting local communities.
6. Corporate Growth & Sustainability
- Advance long-term and short-term corporate strategies that align with Company’s interests and mandate.
- Explore new business opportunities, partnerships, and value addition initiatives.
- Ensure company remains a responsible, sustainable, and competitive enterprise in the global metals sector.
Essential Competencies
- Proven leadership in managing complex organizations, preferably in mining, natural resources, or related industries.
- International exposure will be considered as an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
- Strategic thinking with demonstrated ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
