    The role involves tactical supervision, real-time monitoring, and ensuring operational efficiency. Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a company’s vehicle fleet. This role ensures that vehicles are roadworthy, safe, and operating efficiently while managing workshop staff, inventory, and budget.

    1. Fleet Management and Tracking

    – Real-time Monitoring: Utilize GPS/telematics tracking software to monitor the entire fleet of trucks/vehicles in real-time, ensuring adherence to scheduled routes and timely departures/arrivals.

    – Vehicle Logs: Maintain accurate digital and physical logs of all vehicle movements, driver hours, fuel consumption, and maintenance schedules.

    – Compliance: Ensure all fleet operations and drivers comply with local and national transportation regulations (e.g., hours of service, safety standards).

    2. Routing and Optimization

    – Route Planning: Design, implement, and adjust daily and weekly routes for optimal efficiency, minimizing mileage, fuel usage, and transit time.

    – Problem Resolution: Act as the primary contact for drivers regarding traffic delays, road closures, or mechanical issues, rerouting trucks as necessary to maintain the schedule.

    – Performance Analysis: Analyze route data and fleet performance metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in speed and cost-efficiency.

    – Back Loading and Capacity Management

    Back Loading Coordination: Proactively identify and coordinate backhauling opportunities (back loading) where possible, ensuring trucks do not return empty after delivering mattresses.

    – Load Maximization: Work with the warehouse/sales team to ensure each truckload is correctly planned and maximized for efficiency without exceeding legal weight limits.

    – Inventory Communication: Maintain clear communication with the warehouse team regarding inbound and outbound truck status to ensure timely loading and unloading.

    3. Supervise and coordinate workshop activities including maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics.

    – Plan and schedule routine preventive maintenance for all vehicles and equipment.

    – Ensure compliance with safety, legal, and environmental regulations.

    – Maintain accurate service records and vehicle maintenance history.

    – Manage workshop inventory, spare parts procurement, and tools.

    – Lead a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff—assigning tasks and monitoring performance.

    -Conduct inspections and authorize vehicle releases after repairs.

    – Handle breakdowns and emergency repairs efficiently to minimize downtime.

    – Ensure adherence to maintenance budgets and cost-effective operations.

    – Liaise with transport operations teams to ensure availability and reliability of fleet.

    – Train and develop workshop staff on new technologies, safety protocols, and best practices.

    4. Driver and Safety Supervision

    Driver Support: Provide daily operational instructions and support to the truck drivers.

    – Safety Enforcement: Promote and enforce a culture of safety, ensuring drivers conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any defects immediately.

    5. Reporting and Communication

    Reporting: Generate regular performance reports for the management, detailing key metrics like on-time delivery rate, fuel efficiency, backhauling success, and fleet utilization.

    Qualifications:

    – Be a Graduate. Diploma or degree holder in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field will be preferred.

    Experience:

    – Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in transport workshop management or heavy vehicle maintenance.

    – Proficiency in workshop management software and fleet tracking systems.

    – Excellent planning and communication skills.

    – Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly.

    – Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements for commercial vehicles.
